Planned hiring

Product Designer, Trust & AI Experiences

Lucy is a proactive AI coach from Lucy Labs that lives on your desktop as a cloud-backed app.

Planned hiring. This description explains the work we are preparing to hire for; it is not a confirmed start date or offer.

Take an observed problem to an interactive prototype, learn from users and follow the details through implementation. You will design how people understand Lucy, choose what they share, respond to coaching and correct mistakes. Your work will turn complex AI behavior and enterprise controls into experiences that people can use with confidence.

The role

Take an observed problem to an interactive prototype, learn from users and follow the details through implementation. You will design how people understand Lucy, choose what they share, respond to coaching and correct mistakes. Your work will turn complex AI behavior and enterprise controls into experiences that people can use with confidence.

The scope spans the desktop experience and supporting user and organization surfaces. You will work closely with a Product Manager, researcher and engineers, with Travis leading Product. We need a designer who can move from an observed problem to an interactive prototype, learn from users and follow the details through implementation.

What you will do

  • Design the journey from first use and permissioned observation to a useful coaching moment. Make the current observation state, available controls and consequences of a choice understandable.
  • Create flows for explanations, uncertain suggestions, user correction and feedback. Help people distinguish what Lucy observed from what it inferred, and make recovery from a mistaken interpretation straightforward.
  • Explore coaching across chat, timely prompts and progress views. Test when an interruption helps, when it distracts and how users can defer an idea or adjust the coaching experience.
  • Design enterprise administration and user settings with clear boundaries between individual control and organization policy. Work through empty, restricted, unavailable and error states alongside the main journey.
  • Build prototypes at the fidelity needed to answer the current question. Develop reusable interaction patterns, content guidance and accessible components as the product earns a stable design language.
  • Partner with researchers on usability and comprehension studies. Turn findings into specific design changes and explain which questions remain unanswered.
  • Work with desktop and product engineers through delivery. Review keyboard access, focus behavior, readability, consistency and recovery, and prioritize defects by their effect on users.

Your partners and boundaries

You own interaction design and the coherence of the assigned experience. Product Management owns priorities and product acceptance; the UX Researcher owns dedicated studies and synthesis. You participate in discovery without replacing either function's capacity.

Behavioral Science helps shape intervention hypotheses, and Data Science helps interpret outcome evidence. Engineering owns implementation and technical feasibility. Product Security and the relevant policy owners establish control requirements; you make those requirements understandable and testable in the interface. Design copy must describe the capability and controls available at the relevant product stage.

What you bring

Show us a portfolio that explains the problem, alternatives, feedback and final decisions behind complex software experiences. We value evidence that you improved comprehension or task success, including examples where a polished idea failed and you changed it.

You should be comfortable with interaction design, information architecture, prototyping and accessible design. Clear writing and constructive collaboration with engineers are essential. Experience with desktop software, enterprise administration or AI uncertainty is useful; thoughtful judgment about user agency matters throughout. You can use AI tools to explore ideas while retaining responsibility for the resulting design.

Your first 90 days

Map the initial experience with Product and Engineering, identify the highest-risk comprehension problems and agree a small set of design questions. Prototype and test the core permission, coaching and correction flows. Deliver an implementation-ready slice with state coverage, accessibility guidance and a prioritized findings log, then review the built experience with the team.
