The work

If a competency trend changes after a scoring update, the team needs to know whether the user improved, the input coverage changed or the calculation changed. Your work will make those distinctions inspectable and prevent different product surfaces from quietly calculating different answers.
What you will own
- Build versioned transformations and metric models from approved Behavior context, coaching feedback, assessments and Knowledge definitions. Keep raw observations, inferred context and calculated measures distinct.
- Implement agreed definitions for adoption, coaching use, competency and outcomes with explicit grain, denominators, time windows and treatment of missing data. Record the definition and source versions behind a result.
- Build freshness, completeness, uniqueness and reconciliation checks. Make failures visible to consumers instead of allowing stale or partial data to appear as current progress.
- Create reliable data interfaces and analysis-ready views for product dashboards and experiments. Trace a displayed value through its transformations, and document who consumes a metric before changing it.
- Apply current access and retention requirements to derived data. Work with Security on manager team-size gating, permitted individual opt-in, deletion effects and prevention of prompt or Content exposure through analytical views.
- Support controlled backfills and score-version comparisons with Data Engineering. Explain when historical results can be recalculated and when data limits require a visible break in comparability.
Your partners
Product Data Science owns study design and interpretation; you own the reusable calculations and their reliability. Data Engineering owns source ingestion, replay and storage lifecycle. Knowledge Graph Engineering maintains taxonomy implementation, and the Product Manager prioritizes the customer questions the metrics must answer. Product engineers deliver dashboard experiences. This role supports Lucy's product measurement and does not establish a separate corporate BI function or take over business-process discovery.
What you bring
You have built trustworthy SQL transformations, data models and analytical interfaces, with tests that caught meaningful data problems. Bring practical programming and version-control skills, and an example of reconciling conflicting numbers with source systems. You should be able to explain metric definitions to people who do not write SQL. Experience with changing event schemas, longitudinal metrics or privacy-sensitive data is helpful; we do not require one warehouse vendor or toolchain.
Your first 90 days
Inspect the available source contracts and select a small set of product metrics with Data Science and Product. Establish their definitions, lineage and quality checks, then reconcile a representative result back to its inputs. Deliver a reusable view or interface with documented consumers and failure behavior. Where another engineer has been covering this work, agree an explicit transfer of duties and maintenance responsibility so the same capacity is not counted twice.
