Planned hiring

UX Researcher, Enterprise Workflows

Lucy is a proactive AI coach from Lucy Labs that lives on your desktop as a cloud-backed app.

Planned hiring. This description explains the work we are preparing to hire for; it is not a confirmed start date or offer.

Study enterprise work practices and test how people understand Lucy's coaching and controls. You will ground the product in how people actually work: the goals they pursue, the tools they use, the judgment they exercise and the exceptions that make a neat process diagram incomplete.

The role

Study enterprise work practices and test how people understand Lucy's coaching and controls. You will ground the product in how people actually work: the goals they pursue, the tools they use, the judgment they exercise and the exceptions that make a neat process diagram incomplete.

You will study enterprise work practices and test how people understand Lucy's coaching and controls. Your findings will help the team select useful problems, represent work accurately and avoid treating a trace of activity as a complete account of someone's intention. You will partner with Product and Design under Travis's Product leadership.

What you will do

  • Plan focused interviews, contextual observations, diary studies and usability sessions. Choose methods and participants to answer a product question, and explain the limits of the sample.
  • Study business processes across roles: work sequences, handoffs, informal workarounds, decision points, tools, vocabulary and desired outcomes. Validate interpretations with participants and retain meaningful differences between teams.
  • Turn findings into clear examples of Goals, Tasks, Actions and ordered Workflows, including opportunities for users to build reusable Solutions. Work with Knowledge Graph engineers on ambiguous categories and missing prerequisites.
  • Research how people understand permissioned observation, coaching suggestions, uncertainty, correction and sharing choices. Test comprehension and behavior rather than relying only on stated preference.
  • Maintain traceable research evidence with appropriate consent, access and handling. Separate observation, participant explanation and researcher interpretation in your synthesis.
  • Help evaluation specialists understand difficult examples and the context behind disputed labels. Document disagreement and unsupported intent assumptions so they can be tested.
  • Communicate findings in concise decision briefs, examples and working sessions. Track whether product changes address the original problem and identify the next useful research question.

Your partners and boundaries

Product Managers own prioritization and product decisions; you own the quality and execution of assigned research. Designers own interaction solutions, while you test the questions those solutions raise. Knowledge Graph engineers implement the semantic model and engineers build the product.

Behavioral Scientists study intervention mechanisms and behavior change. Data Scientists lead quantitative measurement and causal analysis; AI Evaluation Engineers own evaluation datasets, adjudication processes and regression evidence. You contribute participant context and grounded examples to that work. Field colleagues help connect research to customer circumstances, without replacing direct user evidence.

What you bring

You can demonstrate a research project from question and recruitment through fieldwork, synthesis and a consequential product decision. Explain how you handled conflicting accounts, limited access, sampling bias or evidence that challenged the team's preferred solution.

We look for strong qualitative methods, careful observation, clear writing and practical collaboration. Experience with enterprise software or work practices across multiple roles is useful. You should be able to investigate an unfamiliar domain, distinguish facts from hypotheses and discuss uncertainty without making findings unusably vague. Familiarity with AI experiences and mixed-method collaboration will help you connect human evidence to technical decisions.

Your first 90 days

Agree the priority questions with Product and establish a practical participant and research plan. Complete an initial study of selected work, produce participant-validated examples and identify the most consequential gaps in the team's assumptions. Test an early coaching or trust flow with Design, then deliver findings that change a requirement, interaction or evaluation case and define the next learning cycle.
